We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday 22 July 2025 at 06:00 UTC we will add three new currency symbols to our API. These are:
– Sierra Leonean Leone (ISO currency code: SLE) – Caribbean Guilder (ISO currency code: XCG) – Zimbabwean ZiG (ISO currency code: ZWG)
All three will appear in our standard `latest.json` response alongside existing currency symbols.
They will also be available in our `historical/`, `time-series.json`, `convert/`, `ohlc.json` and `spot.json` API endpoints beginning on the same date, and each will be available as a `base` currency. Additionally, `bid_ask` values will be available for SLE and XCG (but not ZWG).
This change will not involve any API downtime, and there is no change to any API request or response formats (beyond the addition of the additional symbols into existing `rates` objects).
You can learn more about each of these currencies below:
As there is no change to the structure of API requests/responses, this update should not require changes to your integration, unless you use methods or templates to access individual currency symbols (as opposed to the entire result set) in which case they may need to be specifically added in order to benefit from the new rates.
Finally, we would like to also take this opportunity to acknowledge the delay in rolling out these new symbols while we made infrastructure upgrades, and to apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused. We do not anticipate any further delays to addition of new mainstream currency symbols that may need to be added in future.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or comments about this change.
